Dawn Brigade is in the slower, British march style.

It features an alto sax solo as well as an alto / tenor duet, and also challenges the entire low brass and woodwind group by giving them the solo melody in the most boisterous part of the piece.

The general shape of the piece is soft to loud to soft, with the solo alto sax (with snare drum accompaniment) stating the main theme at the beginning and again at the end.
